The purpose of this program is to determine the level of accuracy used by high school band, orchestra, and chorus directors when judging the ability level of their ensembles as they compete. Specific questions to answer include: 1. What are music directors' perceptions of student abilities in an ensemble setting during competition? 2. What differences occur between music teachers' judgments of music ensemble abilities and the judges' ratings of ensembles? 3. When music teachers' perceptions differ from those of a judge, how do music teachers rationalize the differences?
