Parasites were examined from channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, found in the Blackwater River in Central Missouri. The purpose of this study was to see whether or not channel catfish body size (length and weight) would be a good indicator of parasite genera diversity in channel catfish in general. Two sample sites were chosen along the Blackwater River and were sampled during the months of October and November 2010. Correlations were run on the channel catfish parasite data collected for Site 1 and Site 2 separately. Weight and length of channel catfish were found to be highly correlated to one another, but showed a very small relationship to parasite genera diversity. A Shannon diversity index showed that diversity of parasite genera of channel catfish was greater at Site 2 than Site 1.
