Real-time kinect vision web services for a home-care robot

The area of home-care-robots for elderly people is one of the more promising areas where researchers can apply new technologies in the robotics field. In the past few years, cloud-robotics has become a hot research topic. Meanwhile, using the Kinect sensor with robotics is also gaining more interest. The use of these two technologies could create new ways to build intelligent robotics systems. Therefore, this thesis aims to accomplish two goals. The first goal is to use the Kinect sensor to address some important home-care-robot tasks. The second goal is to build the proposed system in a way to simulate the cloud-robotics technique. These goals were accomplished by developing four indoor service tasks: person identification, gesture recognition, fall detection, and person following systems.
