The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were developed with the belief that students in the United States will be taught the same standards and held to the the same expectations as students all across the globe. This paper explores how the school librarian effectively collaborates with classroom teachers, becomes a leader in the educational setting, and becomes the technology expert in schools. Peer reviewed literature determined that school librarians know and understand how to connect the Common Core State Standards to the 21st-Century Learning skills and have the capabilities to help students become self-directed learners.
