Five lakes are located in the Pertle Springs area owned by the University of Central Missouri. Eight sites on the five lakes were sampled monthly from May to September 2015. Depth profiles for temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, pH and secchi depth were recorded at each site. Subsurface water samples were also collected at each site and analyzed in the laboratory for chlorophyll a, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, orthophosphate, alkalinity, hardness, total suspended solids and turbidity. In addition to these water quality parameters, the morphometry and dominant aquatic vegetation were determined for each of the five lakes. Finally, land use types in the Pertle Springs drainage basin were classified and mapped. Results from the ecological assessment were then used to propose a lake management plan following the restoration of Lake Cena in the spring of 2016.
