Michael Chekhov was a highly esteemed actor and teacher. Beginning with his childhood, Chekhov started to formulate his theories and how they would apply to his practice. During his time at the Moscow Art Theatre under the tutelage of Konstantin Stanislavsky, Chekhov’s theories were solidified and he eventually found a way to set them in writing for others to put into practice. This paper will examine Chekhov’s theories, and will show how his life experiences and training contributed to constructing his theories.
