Investigation of 3D Printing : A Survey Research

3D printing is now integrating itself into many forms of manufacturing. As the trend of 3D printing objects is becoming more popular by the day, questions arise with regards to its (3D printing) growth, limitations and areas of further research that the existing industry is facing or an upcoming industry might face. Answers to these questions are important to understanding and predicting what the future of 3D printing might look like. Several techniques, methodologies, growth factors, and limitations of 3D printing are described. These growth factors and limitations provide questions that seek answers to understand the current scenario and predict the future of 3D printing from a technology and business standpoint. The methodology involved designing an online survey consisting of a questionnaire that aimed to elicit responses from professionals using 3D printing in design, development, or manufacturing. This survey is targeted towards professionals who have working knowledge about 3D printers. Data analysis summarizes the responses to answer the research questions and test the hypothesis which concluded that there is main effect between the hypothesis variables. In conclusion, data obtained reveals that the future of 3D printing looks bright and the factors that adversely influence future investments are quite low.
